Gulf Coast Cancer Centers recently added RapidArc® radiotherapy to its collection of the most advanced technologies for cancer treatment along the Gulf Coast.
RapidArc has been found to be equivalent to or better than IMRT at targeting cancerous tumors, including multi-target cancers. RapidArc advances the standard of care with uncompromised treatment delivering radiation in a continually moving arc in two minutes or less, versus the standard treatment time of 10-15 minutes. This technology also allows for a faster and more precise treatment, protecting critical organs surrounding the cancer.
Through its precise targeting, RapidArc spares more tissue than other treatments while delivering essentially the same dose. RapidArc radiotherapy technology is easy to implement and requires no major process changes from GCCC’s oncologists. The treatment time is much shorter, but the steps for planning and delivering treatments are virtually the same as today’s IMRT and IGRT treatment techniques.
RapidArc radiotherapy technology uses fewer monitor units to administer its radiosurgery treatments, which means less total body irradiation during treatment. This also represents how superior RapidArc is in protecting critical structures including the spinal cord, brainstem, eyes, optic nerve and chiasm, parotid glands, and brain.
