Testimonials
One of the most enjoyable parts of my job is seeing my patients’ progress, even though cancer is a difficult disease. These patients are wonderful to be around. They inspire me in that they are faced with tremendous difficulties and overcome them physically and emotionally. There’s something that happens that allows them to deal with life with such grace. My staff and I get so much back from our patients. I cannot imagine doing anything else.”

William C. Hixson M.D.
Directing Radiation Oncologist
Gulf Coast Cancer Centers

Ed Knowles - Prostate Cancer

"After being diagnosed with prostate cancer by my urologist in November 2005 at age 74, I began seeing Dr. Hixson at Gulf Coast Cancer Centers for radiation therapy and brachytherapy (seeds). The seeds procedure was done by Dr. Hixson, and it only took about three hours from the time I arrived until the time I was going home. All of my treatment including radiation was done right here. The staff at Gulf Coast Cancer Centers has been very supportive, and I've been very pleased with everything Dr. Hixson and his staff have done. I'm doing great and feeling healthy. Gulf Coast Cancer Centers is part of the reason I'm here."

Danny Smith - Head and Neck Cancer

"After being diagnosed with head and neck cancer in January 2002 at age 46, I began seeing Dr. Hixson at Gulf Coast Cancer Centers for my radiation therapy. You could not have a better group of people taking care of you. I underwent 7˝ weeks of radiation treatments, five days a week. Dr. Hixson and the staff really keep you upbeat and encourage you through the treatments. I'm doing great and feeling healthy. Gulf Coast Cancer Centers is part of the reason I'm here."

Sharon Peacock - Breast cancer

"After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002 at age 42, I began seeing Dr. Hixson at Gulf Coast Cancer Centers for my radiation therapy. They were so accommodating of my schedule. I would have radiation at 7 a.m. and be at school for class by 7:30 a.m. For me, it was important to maintain as normal a routine as possible while undergoing cancer treatments. And Gulf Coast Cancer Centers allowed me to do that. I'm doing great and feeling healthy. I owe a lot of the credit to my caregivers at Gulf Coast Cancer Centers. They are part of the reason I'm here."

Jim Pool - Prostate Cancer

"In 1998 at age 64, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Six years later after having my prostate removed, a normal checkup showed the cancer had returned. Because my daughter lived in Houston, I traveled to receive cancer care there, but was thoroughly disappointed. Without a clue where to go next, I talked with friends at church who mentioned Dr. Hixson at Gulf Coast Cancer Centers. I have never been treated so individually, and I felt completely assured that Dr. Hixson was going to tackle my cancer. The therapists made treatment enjoyable for me, and I actually looked forward to it. I can compare it with one of the top cancer centers in the world, and I choose Gulf Coast Cancer Centers. They are part of the reason I'm here."

Jim Pool is a retired marketing manager for Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois. A resident of the Gulf Coast since 1997 and a prostate cancer survivor since 1998, he is a patient of Gulf Coast Cancer Centers in Foley.

Beverly Beeson - Breast Cancer

"I live in Atlanta and have been battling cancer since 1998. This past summer my father who lived in Foley was diagnosed with cancer and was referred to Dr. Hixson at Gulf Coast Cancer Centers for radiation treatment. From the moment we arrived, I was impressed with the way the people made you feel at ease. This past fall I found out that I needed to have radiation treatment to continue my battle with cancer. Instead of doing the treatment in Atlanta, I decided that I would do the treatments at Gulf Coast Cancer Centers because I was very impressed with Dr. Hixson and his staff's professionalism. My father's and my own experience with the Center was wonderful. When battling an illness it is very important to have faith in the people that are in charge of your health, and Gulf Coast Cancer Centers is part of the reason I'm here."

The treatments were very efficient and convenient. I could leave home and be finished within an hour. "I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in March of 2006. I received 39 radiation treatments at the Monroeville center. My treatments went very well. Dr. Hixson and his staff were really good to me. I live in the Monroeville area, so the center was especially convenient for me. If I had to drive all the way to Mobile, it would have hurt my wallet. I have been very pleased with the treatments I have received. Gulf Coast Cancer Centers is part of the reason I'm here."

"On my very first day of treatment at Gulf Coast Cancer Centers, I felt like I was with family because the staff was so nice and the atmosphere was inviting and warm. Dr. Hixson's voice was convincing that we would beat this and his pleasant personality helped me so much. I believed and knew I would be healed because of the positive attitude of the staff. The service at Gulf Coast Cancer Centers is better than excellent. Gulf Coast Cancer Centers is part of the reason I'm here."

Susan Harrell-Breast Cancer

Radiation treatment is lonely and frightening; the people at Gulf Coast Cancer Centers are efficient, amazing and caring. I got really scared about treatments but nurses and staff encouraged me and stayed by my side. I couldn't have done it without the caring, very comforting staff. They told me to relax and imagine myself at the beach flying a yellow kite. They told me that I could "do it" and not to give up.

Pat Messitt-Breast Cancer

I had a lumpectomy. I live in Gulf Shores and I went to the Foley office of Gulf Coast Cancer Centers. Treated with radiation, the staff got me in very quickly - it was the only place I ever felt safe to have radiation treatments. The staff was outstanding and Dr. Hixson was very forthcoming, understanding, and supportive. When my husband got prostate cancer, we went to Dr. Hixson - we wouldn't go anywhere else. He is very intelligent, positive and honest. When I went to Gulf Coast Cancer Centers, I felt like I was going home.
